Sizing & airflow

Short cycling

When a system starts, runs only a few minutes, and shuts off, over and over. Causes range from a clogged filter or a failing sensor to the big one: equipment that's oversized for the home.

Why it matters for your home

Short cycling is hard on parts (most wear happens at startup), terrible for St. Louis-summer humidity control (the system never runs long enough to dehumidify), and expensive on the bill. If your system has short-cycled since the day it was installed, the likely culprit is sizing, which is why the fix starts with a load calculation, not another part.
