ECM blower

An Electronically Commutated Motor, a variable-speed, electronically controlled blower motor that adjusts airflow precisely and uses far less electricity than the old fixed-speed PSC motors.

Why it matters for your home

The blower runs whenever your system does, heating, cooling, or fan-only, so its efficiency compounds all year. ECM blowers also enable better dehumidification (slower airflow wrings out more moisture) and quieter operation. In a furnace quote, the blower type quietly determines how well your AC performs too.
