Sizing & airflow
Static pressure
The resistance your ductwork puts up against airflow, HVAC's version of blood pressure. Measured in inches of water column, it tells a technician whether air can actually move through the system as designed.
Why it matters for your home
High static pressure means something is choking airflow: undersized ducts, a too-restrictive filter, crushed flex duct, or a dirty coil. The symptoms show up as weak airflow, hot-and-cold rooms, noise, and early blower failures. It's a thirty-second measurement during a tune-up that explains problems homeowners have lived with for years.
